The atmosphere of any space is mostly shaped by light. Light qualifies space and is - without being solid - the essential matter of architecture.

Our lamps were designed using authorial techniques, refined over the years. They are made of steel structure with electrostatic painting, covered with a thin fabric and Kozo - the oldest Japanese paper in the world, used to this day for its excellence and its remarkable quality of light diffusion, resistance, and durability.

They are the result of a spirit of experimentation and exploration. Invention may come in many forms, sometimes the lamps are sketched, at times they appear as fleeting images in the mind while ordinary life goes on. Sometimes they are conceived from the very objects in the studio, whose functions change and acquire new outlines and meanings. Stacked lamp frames transform into tall columns.  Fabric and paper are no longer flat, but become three-dimensional constructive elements, transforming into "new" materials. The studio itself is - in its ever-changing arrangement – a source of continuous inspiration - the way things are stored, a frame placed next to another with no apparent relationship - everything may be a starting point.

Surprise is a fundamental element within this process. Intentions are permanently open, ready to be changed along the way. Limitations can be inspiring, and "mistakes" can unveil new exciting paths, previously unimagined to be taken.

The studio is a place where the entire world fits.

Our paper is so unique, it is worth a special note!

Kozo fiber paper is one of the finest papers in the world - it is historically the paper that is used by artists, for engravings, for restorations. Known erroneously as rice paper - it exists for over 1200 years. Sacred Buddhist texts - sutras - of this age remain absolutely intact, without any sign of the action of time. Since it is cultivated in volcanic soil, it is naturally alkaline, which ensures protection against most fungi and bacteria. Its long vegetal fiber interweaves solidly with each other, thus providing high resistance and durability to the paper. This also allows it to become part of the architecture itself. In Japan this paper is treated with reverence and has been used for over a thousand years in architecture, in screens and shôjis - sliding doors made of paper and wood. In addition to all these qualities, the fiber is extracted through an annual pruning that preserves the integrity of the shrub - thus guaranteeing a sustainable production process.

Kozo paper is also known for its excellence and amazing lighting diffusion properties, therefore it is widely used in lighting fixtures. Its high-quality diffuser surface allows the light to spread smoothly, without glare, and with great reach.
